Mackie-Benjumeda win in Atlanta, while Agritelley and Vazquez claim the Men’s D1

It was an exciting weekend of padel action. Here's the breakdown and everything you need to know about RedPADEL's Circuit no.2 in Atlanta.

The second RedPADEL Circuit of the year in Atlanta lived up to the pre-tournament hype with great energy and some incredible matches.

It was a hot one in Atlanta which made the play extra fast, while endurance was key to manage the heat. The twin locations - pATL courts and Millsap Padel Court (a beautiful private residence) - made for an exciting weekend and the talent on display did not disappoint. The day time temperatures hovered in the low 90s with the humidity at 70 percent adding an extra layer of duress for the players.

In the D1 Men's Nico Agritelley (RPR 18.15) and Juan Vazquez (RPR 18.19) were able to hold off Maximiliano Rozas (RPR 17.37) and Guillermo Cagigas (RPR 15.6) in the final with a 6-3, 6-3 victory.

“We knew we were going to have to work the low, with a good opportunity to play the lob. We didn’t execute it perfectly but we made some small adjustments and it ended up working out in the end," said Nico Agritelley after the win. "That was our strategy. They kind of caught on a little bit. We were just trying to keep them on their toes, to stay one step ahead of them.”

Agritelley and Vazquez won all five matches from the group stage to the Final, which included a 10-0 undefeated run in sets won-lost. For Agritelley the Final win gave him his 5th RedPADEL tournament win, and now has a current 9-match winning streak (24-4 overall). The Atlanta win marks Vazquez' second RedPADEL circuit win of the year, after winning in Miami with Pete Alonso. Vazquez is now on top of the Leaderboard for the $40,000 Year End Master's Series Countdown.

Of note in the D1 Men's, former world no.1 doubles tennis champion Jared Palmer and his partner Nalle Grinda, co-founder of Padel X, claimed Third Place, defeating Geronimo Barrios Silva and Simon Castello 7-5, 7-6. Palmer won 28 professional doubles titles during his tennis career including the Australian Open and Wimbledon.

In the D1 Women's Riva Mackie (RPR 11.6)  and Bego Benjumeda (RPR 11.7) were pushed to the brink by Andrea Samson (RPR 10.3) Astrid Gehre (RPR 10.4). They won a tight match in three sets. Mackie-Benjumeda saved three match points to win 4-6, 6-2, 7-5. In the same match during the group stage, Mackie and Benjumeda prevailed in another epic battle 7-5, 7-6, a result that spanned 25 games.

The win was Mackie's second RedPADEL circuit win for the year, winning in Miami with Annica Cooper. In Atlanta, Mackie again provided strong and consistent play with Benjumeda, winning four matches and going 8-1 for sets won and lost.

In D2 Men's, the Argentinian pair of Agustin Sanchez (RPR 14.1) and Ernes Fornasari (RPR 14.1) claimed victory over Carlos Benito (15.4) and Casey Klay (11.5) in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. In their earlier group stage meeting, it was Benito and Klay who took the honours 6-3, 1-6, 7-6. Both showdowns could only be best described as hard-fought and excellent padel. Sanchez and Fornasari continue their visit to the USA from Argentina while competing in padel events across the country.
